Mustang specials ‘64 – ‘73

Only a couple of days ago I wrote about the Ford Mustang Indy 500 Coupes that were built in 1964, and on my search for more info I found this page created by the Mustangdrivers (fellow countrymen of mine nevertheless) which you might find interesting as well.

This page has all the Mustang special editions that were build between 1964 and 1973, some you might now and some you will have never heard of before. Here’s a short outtake, visit the page to see all.

This is the badge from the ‘67 Ski Country Special for instance, which included a ski-rack for instance. Duh! (Only from Denver dealerships at the time).

Find out more about the ‘67 Mustang Stallion, the ‘67 Indy Pace Setter, the ‘68 California Special, the ‘69 Limited Edition 600 and many more right here! Although I must admit that the original Indy 500 beats them all though ;)

Thanks for posting about these special editions. They’re kind of an obsession with me also. I’ve done a few write ups on my blog about several including the Indy 500 coupes, Gold Nugget Special, Cardinal Edition and the great Ski Country Special that you posted about.

The Ski Country was an option on not just the Mustang, but Galaxie, Fairlane & Ford Country Sedan too.

If you get a chance, check them out:

I just purchased a Ski Country Special in great shape. It has the badge on the trunk lid and virtually original thru out. I am desperately trying to find a picture of what kind of ski rack it had though, as this one was not installed by the dealer at the time. Any thoughts? thanks

I’ll try and find out for you, and maybe someone of the community here knows so feel free to chime in. The one thing I did find so far is this, not exactly a photo but a an old b/w ad from the Ski Country Special:

    Enjoy the car btw.

I have to say that this car is not that popular in South Africa, one will see one now and again, which is such a pity as they are really amazing little sports cars. I think that if one really wanted one they would have to be imported especially for that client.
